Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

8/5/25

Last week, I had the privilege of speaking to the ASA Houston Chapter about the importance of stepping outside our comfort zones—to build real relationships and lead with impact.

As I shared my own story, I was reminded how much the hard stuff has shaped me. I’m better because I went through the gauntlet. The toughest moments are often the ones that grow us the most—personally and professionally.

Looking back, it’s easy to see the value in a crisis I survived. But when I’m in the thick of it? That’s harder. The key for me is shifting focus—from how hard it is to what it’s trying to teach me. What do I need to learn? What do I need to do differently? That mindset—a leadership mindset—changes everything.

To borrow a word from Jocko: “Good.”
This challenge is here to make me sharper. Stronger. Better.

Here’s to doing the hard things on purpose—because that’s where the growth lives.
